General help

Will you help us cheer up the elderly in Utrecht? Make them happy by delivering the ‘Blij Nederland’ (Happy Netherlands) to residential care institutions! De Blij Nederland is a paper newspaper with positive news that provides cheerfulness and distraction for lonely elderly people in Utrecht, The Hague, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In this newspaper the elderly read about fun initiatives in these Covid-19 times, they receive music tips, can make a puzzle or read their (Covid-19-proof) horoscope. Curious about the content? Read the first edition here (only available in Dutch).

Today you make the elderly happy by picking up the newspaper in Zuilen and delivering it to a residential care center in Zuilen. A bicycle or car and a sturdy shopping bag that fits an A3 size is all you need to make a lot of lonely elderly people happy today!

Note: The time of this activity is the time that you can pick up the newspapers at the collection point. Here you get the newspapers and you get some extra explanation about the delivery locations. Of course we keep 1.5 meters distance from each other. You can then deliver them to the residential care centers at the time that suits you. Though this must be before 5 pm on the same day, due to the closing of the receptions of the residential care centers. When delivering, follow the instructions of the residential care centers regarding Covid-19 measures.

Targetgroup and impact

Residential care centres no longer receive visitors because of the Covid-19 virus. This increases the loneliness that people living there can experience. For people who have little or no family with whom they have contact, the danger of social isolation looms. One of the regular causes of loneliness among the elderly is the cutbacks in healthcare and the high workload on the staff. This leads to regular personnel not having the time to offer enough individual attention. And now, because of the Covid-19 situation, the volunteers and family members who are normally there cannot come. So it's time for action! For a large group of people, De Blij Nederland means fun and distraction from the situation. The distribution of the newspaper is easy to fit into their work for employees of residential care centers, so many residents can enjoy the newspaper!

Getting there

The collection point and residential care locations are easily accessible by bicycle or car. Due to the Covid-19 measures we strongly advise you not to use public transport for delivery. By bike it takes you about 10 minutes from the pick-up point in Zuilen to the delivery locations in Zuilen.
