Warm Winter Weeks

NL Cares celebrates the Warm Winter Weeks in December! During this month we organize numerous volunteer activities to ensure everyone enjoys the holidays. By joining these activities as a volunteer, you will bring some festivity to citizens who could use a little extra personal attention. The Warm Winter Weeks 2019 are funded by the RCOAK Foundation and Cloverleaf Foundation.

Activity

A delicious Christmas dinner is served at nursing home the Buitenhof today! A live band and other artists will play beautiful Christmas tunes. The familymembers of the elderly are also invited to make it extra festive. Not all elderly have a large family though, so it would be great if volunteers are present who could make a small chat with them. As a volunteer you will help guiding the elderly to the tables and you will help with serving out dinner. Of course you can also join the dinner yourself! Great if you can assist some elderly with eating and they also appreciate a small chat. Employees of the nursing home are present, who will answer all your questions and guide you during the activity. Afterwards you will help with cleaning and tidying up. Everyone can participate in this activity as a volunteer, and like all our activities you are not tied to anything.

Target group & Impact

The Buitenhof is a nursing home for elderly in Amsterdam South. The Buitenhof puts the wellbeing of its residents first and as a volunteer you can make a valuable contribution to this. Due to increasing cuts in health care, less staff is available to join and supervise social activities. The residents of the elderly homes do no longer experience much personal attention. Volunteers are therefore very important. Be prepared for the elderly to maintain a different pace than you are used to. In order to fully enjoy the activity, it is important that you take the time and speak slowly. Do you want to know more about the elderly and what is the best way to communicate with them? Then go to the detailed description of the elderly target group.
