Keep in mind that some migrants may not have a good command of the Dutch language, especially the older migrants who were not born here. Often times they do understand the Dutch language, but they are unable to pronounce the words. You can run into this group during activities.
Some migrants do not speak Dutch at all. Often times, you can communicate with them in English or a different language. Due to a possible language barrier, it is important to speak with the migrant at a calm pace. You can also communicate by writing down words or drawing them, pointing, or explaining with the help of gestures. They will appreciate this very much.
Migrants may have a background that is completely different from yours. Please respect this and keep in mind that this could be brought up during the activity. Talk about this with the people, they often like to talk about this. This is how you can learn from each other, it provides mutual satisfaction.
